1:1 Mentoring

BUILDING RELATIONSHIP ONE OUTING AT A TIME

Ezekiel Ministries’ community-based mentor program is one hour each week between one child and one carefully selected loving adult from a local church. Kids and their mentors build relationships through simple, fun quality time together and intentional conversations.

BUILDING CONNECTION THROUGH QUALITY TIME

A support network for parents and children in Lexington & Columbia, SC

Ezekiel Ministries offers 1:1 Mentoring for kids within our service area as a way of providing even greater relational connection directly tailored to the specific needs of each child as they grow up.

Deeply Personalized Focus

Each mentor relationship is tailored to the child’s unique personality, interests, and needs, allowing time together to feel natural, meaningful, and engaging.

Confidentiality & Trust

Mentors create a safe, consistent space where children can be themselves, share openly, and grow in confidence within a trusted relationship.

Consistent, Lasting Relationships

Connection deepens through regular time together, building trust through conversation, shared experience, and face-to-face presence.

4 Hours Per Month of Intentional Time

Mentors commit to a sustainable rhythm of four hours each month, creating touchpoints that allow trust and connection to deepen over time.

How We Make A Match

Ezekiel Ministries uses four core criteria to make the best fit possible for parents, children, and mentors.

Personality

Greater connection is important for laying a foundation of trust. We connect kids with mentors who share similar interests, hobbies, and personalities so that outings are fun and easy for everyone. It also serves as a way to help kids see that their personalities and hobbies have a place in this world.

Proximity

Mentoring should be fun and easy. That’s why we match our kids with mentors who live nearby. Less time in the car means more quality time together out in the community.

Prayer

Jesus drives everything we do. We lift up every potential match up in prayer, asking God to give us discernment and clarity on making the best match possible.

Preference

We want to ensure parents/guardians are supported by having a mentor. In the same way, we also want to make sure mentors and mentees have agency to choose the best fit for themselves. Our goal is providing every party involved with the ingredients they need for a healthy long-term mentoring relationship.

SAFETY

Ensuring mentors and mentees are safe, happy, and growing.

Ezekiel Ministries takes the safety of mentors and mentees seriously. We have rigorous policies and procedures in place to best ensure mentoring relationships remain a healthy, safe environment for growth, trust, and positive impact. All mentors go through extensive interviews, background checks, and training prior to being accepted into our mentoring program. Our policies clearly define safe, open communication and provide guidelines for healthy boundaries to ensure mentors are operating in strength, mentees are safe, and parents/guardians are supported.

Ezekiel Ministries provides comprehensive training for mentors to equip, support, and protect them in their role as a trustworthy support system for a child and their parent/guardian.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How long of a commitment is being a 1:1 Mentor?

When a potential mentor volunteers, we ask them to commit to 1 year of mentoring a child through flexible weekly outings. Mentors and families commit to 1 Hour Each Week (or at least 4 hours each month).

Consistency is key to building healthy relational connection.

How are mentors and mentees matched?

We do our best to work with families to pair mentors and mentees so they have the best likelihood of connection and long-term growth. To do that, we use THE FOUR P’s:

Personality

Prayer

Proximity

Preference

I’m a busy person. What if something comes up?

We get it! Life happens. We strive to match our kids with stable, consistent adults who can commit to showing up for them an hour each week. Or two hours every other week.

Bottom line: Consistency is the key to a healthy mentoring relationship. Strive for stability, but if something comes up, let us know!

What are the requirements?

  • 21+ years of age
  • At least a 1-year commitment (at least 4 hours per month)
  • Actively involved in a local church
  • Able to attend New Mentor Interest Meeting and Mentor Workshop
  • Resident of Richland/Lexington counties for at least one year
  • Must have a valid drivers license and reliable transportation

What if we don’t “click”?

Our interview process is extensive and we don’t run into this problem often, but if we do, and both mentee and mentor agree, we can rematch.

Will I be taken advantage of?

No way. Our mentoring program provides relationships, not financial help or tangible things. Our families come to us for the valuable resource of relationships: YOU.

Are mentors insured?

Absolutely. Mentors are covered through insurance provided by Ezekiel Ministries.
